When joining an airsoft team, some people make their choice by joining the team that plays at the game site that is nearest to their home or place of work. While this may work for some people, it does not work for everyone. Some teams have philosophies or "fantasies" that do not jive with each and every individual that joins the team.
There are teams that are into airsoft just for the fun of it, thus are not serious about the uniforms of the team, the type of guns and equipment you carry or the tactics/training you undergo. Some teams are serious about the look of the team (standard uniform) but not about the gun you carry or your load out. Others, are really into the milsim thing (military simulation) up to the point that they train like using the tactics (and even use the field manuals) of the units they are emulating. Some go as far as counting the number of BBs you have in your magazines! (No hicap magazines!)
Some teams like to fantasize that they are US Special Forces and insist that all their members have uniforms, guns and equipment similar to that of the US Special Forces. Others have specific genre or periods that they are trying to emulate, such as Vietnam War era, or even World War II, and thus dress and equip themselves as necessary.
So, what I suggest is, go to different play sites. Meet different people from different teams. If you find a team wherein you enjoy their philosphy/fantasy, then play with that team more often. If you can, ask how to join that team, and they may allow you in.
